Asda has reinforced its supply chain leadership with the appointment of David Lepley as Chief Supply Chain Officer, a move that signals the retailer’s commitment to improving its supply chain operations and ensuring product availability for customers. Lepley will be responsible for overseeing food and general merchandise supply operations, leveraging his extensive experience in grocery logistics.
A Familiar Face Returns to Asda
Lepley’s appointment marks a homecoming, as he previously spent 15 years at Asda, starting his career as a temporary Christmas colleague before rising through the ranks to become Vice President of Online Grocery Operations. After leaving in 2016, he joined Morrisons as Executive Group Operations Director, where he played a key role in optimising store and supply chain operations. His return to Asda brings a wealth of experience in large-scale grocery logistics and operational efficiency.
Strengthening Asda’s Supply Chain Strategy
This appointment is part of Asda’s broader efforts to streamline its supply chain, enhance efficiency, and maintain strong supplier relationships. Lepley’s leadership will be critical in ensuring product availability, minimising supply chain disruptions, and driving operational improvements to support Asda’s value-driven approach.
Executive Chairman Allan Leighton welcomed Lepley back, highlighting the significance of his role:
“Delivering the outstanding value and legendary service our customers demand begins with making sure they can get the products they want every time they shop with us. David has considerable experience in grocery logistics and supply chain, and I am delighted that he is coming home to Asda to lead this key area for the business.”
Broader Leadership Restructuring at Asda
Lepley’s appointment is part of a wider leadership restructuring designed to strengthen Asda’s operations and commercial strategy. Other recent leadership changes include:
- Liz Evans – Now permanently confirmed as Chief Commercial Officer for Non-Food & Retail, continuing her leadership of George, Asda’s clothing brand.
- Ade McKeon – Appointed Vice President of Ambient, overseeing key product categories such as Beer, Wines & Spirits, Grocery, Healthcare, and Non-Edible Essentials.
These leadership changes align with Asda’s long-term strategy to provide value-focused, customer-centric retail solutions, ensuring efficiency in both product sourcing and supply chain execution.
